Sumathi Nursing Home

The Founders

Dr. S. N. Patil and Dr. Suvarna Patil, the Founders and Directors of Sumathi Nursing & Maternity Home, have been General and Maternity Practitioners since 1974. With over 5 decades of rich experience in Medicine and Obstetrics, the doctor couple strived hard at the grassroots level and served the people in remote areas of Karnataka before they moved to Bengaluru to set up this hospital.

With no GodFather to support them, they started the hospital from scratch on their own. The challenges they faced all along have chiselled them as the best Administrators in the Medical domain. And it’s with great pride that Sumathi Nursing and Maternity Home boasts of being home to experienced and knowledgeable staff for over 40 years. They take pride in saying that more than half their staff have been working with them for more than 30 years.

In 2022, for their selfless, sincere, and dedicated service to the community, Dr. S. N. Patil and Dr. Suvarna Patil were honored and felicitated by the then Health Minister of Karnataka, PHANA (Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association), and the MLA of Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

History

Short Story About SNH

Destiny played a crucial role in the life of Dr. Patil, the founder of Sumathi Hospital and Maternity Home. It was an accidental meeting with his Hindi teacher, when he was going for admission to Engineering, that steered him away from engineering and got him to do Medicine. The Hindi teacher advised him to take up Medicine, as there is no retirement age for a Doctor, whereas an engineer retires at 60. This sentence was enough to make our Doctor get off the bus and go and join the Medical College. Dr. Patil completed his medicine in 1971 and worked in a small town till 1980. While working in a nursing home, Dr. Patil was looking for a place to start practicing.

Married to a medical graduate, an obstetrician, and a gynaecologist, a medical representative suggested he start practicing at Rannebennur as that place had no clinics or hospitals. Paying heed to him, Dr. Patil and his wife started practice there.Besides destiny driving him to medicine, a divine intervention saved him from a near-fatal accident, where he was treated at a friend’s hospital. When Dr. Patil recovered, the Doctor who treated him showed him the hospital he was building. This is when Dr. Patil decided to have a hospital of his own. Soon, Dr. Patil, at the behest of his relative, came to Bangalore, took a tour of the city on his bike, and zeroed in on a location and started with a 7-bed nursing home, which eventually has grown to a 22-bed nursing home.
