Short Story About SNMH

Destiny played a crucial role in the life of Dr. Patil, the founder of Sumathi Nursing & Maternity Home. It was an accidental meeting with his Hindi teacher, when he was going for admission to Engineering, that steered him away from engineering and got him to do Medicine. The Hindi teacher advised him to take up Medicine, as there is no retirement age for a Doctor, whereas an engineer retires at 60. This sentence was enough to make our Doctor get off the bus and got himself admitted into  Medical College. Dr. Patil completed his medicine in 1971 and started his practice in Ranebennur, a small town, till 1980.

Married to Dr. Suvarna Patil, a Family Physician and Obstetrician, they had a roaring practice in Ranebennur. They then shifted to Bengaluru and started their practice in 1980.  Soon, both of them started practice in a small clinic in Yeshwanthapur and eventually rented a house and converted it into a 7 bedded Nursing and Maternity Centre.  The present hospital was built in 1985 and is now a 22 bedded Mini Multi-speciality Hospital.
